The month of July is a busy time for Japanese university students as they prepare for final exams, summer travel and jobs, and other important deadlines. If you are feeling stressed, please consider the following self-care strategies:

  • Take a walk in the early morning or evening (when it is light outside, but not too hot!)
  • Take a bubble bath or hot shower, or visit an onsen.
  • Take a nap or go to bed early. (Sometimes, you can complete more work after a nap or a good night’s sleep than you would have completed by staring groggily at a page for those hours…)
  • Take some time to get away from technology – whether it’s a “no screens Saturday” or just an hour of respite.
  • Meditate with calm music, the sounds of nature, or complete silence.
  • Schedule time to consume some media that makes you happy (songs, games, movies, etc.)
  • Schedule time to hang out with friends or family.
  • Ask someone for help if you are struggling with your homework, your feelings, or anything else.
  • Forgive yourself for past mistakes and focus on the future.
